It is Easter Sunday the Grimkes attend the Anglican Church in the city and Sarah begins to notice how horribly the slaves from the city are treated. Charlotte elicits a promise from Sarah that one day she will set Handful free. Although Handful does poorly as a maid she remains safe from the wrath of Sarah's mother thanks to Sarah's protection. She sets Handful free but her parents refuse to honor the wish. Sarah doesn't want to own a slave and was deeply traumatized to the point of developing a stutter after seeing a slave whipped. Handful helps her mother, Charlotte, with sewing and the like but is them given to young Sarah Grimke as a slave as a gift for her eleventh birthday. This young woman is a slave for the Grimke family living in Charleston, South Carolina. Handful re-tells an African legend of people who could fly but who lost their wings once they were taken to America. He is also very handsome, which makes him a popular target for the ladies. Will is a loyal friend and a brave warrior. He is a skilled archer and a talented musician. Will Treaty is the love interest in Grave Mercy. This book will satisfy fans of the series as it is filled with action and suspense, and they will eagerly await the next installment. Tamora has no allies, and her only option is to use her own skills and determination to protect the people she loves in dangerous waters. Tamora discovers a conspiracy that may be more dangerous than she anticipated as she starts to investigate the queen’s past. Tamora quickly realizes that the queen is not the only threat to La Rochelle, and she becomes aware that she is not the only one. The story begins with Tamora Pierce, a hired assassin hired to kill the Queen, traveling to La Rochelle. Robin LaFevers is the author of this book and the first book in the His Fair Assassin series. Anne trains Ismae to be an assassin and she is sent on missions to kill the enemies of the duchess. Ismae is able to see the shadows of people’s souls, which allows her to know if they are good or evil. When she is sent to a convent to be a handmaid, she meets Anne, the abbess, who tells her that she has a special gift. She is married off to a man she does not love and is constantly beaten by him.
